Brisbane Gay and Lesbian Commitment Ceremonies, That Celebrate Your Relationship

celebrant@brisbanecivilcelebrant.com

Why Have a Civil Union or Commitment Ceremony?

A Commitment Ceremony, Brisbane is a public declaration of love and commitment between two people. I believe it is the right of every loving couple to marry (if they choose), but until same sex marriage (gay marriage) is legislated, Commitment Ceremonies are a great option for Brisbane gay and lesbian couples (and the wider GLBTI community) to formally and publicly declare their life long commitment.

What happens at a Brisbane Commitment Ceremony?

Gay Couple - Samesex Couple - GLBTI Commitment Ceremony Brisbane

Anything you request. I can help you with a custom written ceremony or I can simply present the ideas you already have, either way we'll make it a truly special and memorable occasion. In a typical Commitment Ceremony, there will be a Commitment Ceremony reading or two (email me for sample Commitment Ceremony Readings), an undertaking to work towards a life long commitment and an exchange of rings. I will get to know you both and create a unique, custom written ceremony that captures the essence of your relationship. I do not believe that one size fits all when it is something as personal as formalisation your love.

How is it different to a Same Sex Marriage (Gay Marriage)?

Gay and Lesbian, GLBTI Commitment Ceremony Brisbane It is not currently permitted for celebrants to declare gay and lesbian couples husbands and wives and it is currently illegal to conduct a same sex marriage in Queensland.

I personally believe that gay and lesbian relationships face different challenges and undergo different experiences, and so it is only fitting that a same sex relationship (and Commitment Ceremony) has its own terminology and status. We can discuss your preferences and come up with your unique ceremony.

Does it have to be a formal occasion?

You can plan your Brisbane Commitment Ceremony to be as formal or informal as you like – from a five star Brisbane City reception room to a budget backyard BBQ, I will help you create an atmosphere that makes your guests feel at home. Usually, Commitment Ceremonies take place on a Friday or Saturday afternoon and are followed by a party however dawn or dusk ceremonies can also be arranged.
